Are any of you familiar with many of the films within Keanu Reeves’ own repertoire? Now, I certainly am, and one in particular is entitled, “Parenthood”. And even if any of you are not familiar with it, I am going to fill you in by making it the focal topic of discussion for this week.

“Parenthood” is a rather fun-filled Ron Howard’ film. It concerns the Buckman family, their relatives, and friends who are in the process of rearing their children (through all of their growing pains and among all of the ensuing joys and sorrows). The children’s ages range from early childhood to adolescent years. And there are quite a few peculiar characters among them, I will say.

Keanu Reeves portrays the character, “Tod Higgins”, in this film. “Tod Higgins” is a somewhat dim-witted, low achieving adolescent rebel that is engaged in an intense, sexually intimate relationship with a rebelling teen miss of high-achieving academic status. His girlfriend, “Julie Buckman”, has a mother who absolutely loathes “Tod Higgins”. Of course, this is one of those normal situations where a mother detests the fact that her daughter of high-academic potential is simply crazy in love with a young adolescent male of low-achieving academic status (her exact opposite; or so it seems).

But, Keanu’s character, “Tod Higgins”, is so appealingly attractive that most adolescent females would not care what their mothers’ thought. He even oozed sex appeal; which is nothing new with my adorably entrancing, and slightly bow-legged Muse, Keanu Reeves. He was even more attractive than his co-star; and this also happens with many couples. What I mean, is that one person in the relationship is oftentimes considered much more attractive than his or her partner, or they are considered to be odd couples.

Storyline: “The story of the Buckman family and friends, attempting to bring up their children. They suffer/enjoy all the events that occur: estranged relatives, the “black sheep” of the family, the eccentrics, the skeletons in the closet, and the rebellious teenagers.” Written by Murray Chapman <muzzle@cs.uq.oz.au>

To make a long story short, “Tod” and “Julie” get married, move in with her mother, and try to make plans for a future together; which is not very possible. After all, they are still in high school. “Julie” eventually becomes pregnant, and they manage to stay together, even until the end (with their adorable first-born baby in tow).

Overall, “Parenthood” is a highly entertaining film. Although it centers primarily around “Gil Buckman” (portrayed by Steve Martin) and his family, I have centered this Blog post Movie Review around my Muse, Keanu Reeves’, part in this film. I must admit that Keanu did make me believe in the “Tod Buckman” character. Although he was declared somewhat of an unsuitable mate for “Julie” in the beginning of the film (by her mother, portrayed by Dianne Wiest); towards the end, he eventually won her mother over. And he was basically a kind and generous adolescent male, who was trying his best to be a devoted husband, and all-around good guy; despite having to deal with the usual trials and tribulations of adolescence. Thus, I look at that as a major contribution to a happy ending.
