Are any of you familiar with any of the films within Keanu Reeves’ film repertoire? Well, I am, and one in particular I’d like to mention is entitled, “Street Kings”. Now, whether any of you have seen it, or have not seen it, I would like to make it the focal topic of discussion for this week.

In “Street Kings”, Keanu Reeves portrays the LAPD Detective “Tom Ludlow”, who is a somewhat implacable and eccentric undercover policeman. He is best friends with his superior, a “Captain Jack Wander”, portrayed by Forrest Whitaker. This relationship is quite advantageous for “Tom Ludlow”; as “Captain Jack Wander” always covers for him. Thus, this advantage incites much jealousy among his fellow comrades-in-blue who often help cover for him, also.

Tom Ludlow” becomes a target of an Internal Affairs expert by the name of “Captain James Biggs” (portrayed by Hugh Laurie) when he is accused of using excessive force after rescuing a child sex slave from a violent and unconscionable Korean gang. It is important to note that the “James Biggs” character is disgruntled over “Captain Jack Wander’s” promotion to Chief of Detectives, instead of himself. And the unethical ex-patrol partner of “Tom Ludlow” by the name of “Terence Washington” sides with Internal Affairs (which is seen as betrayal by his comrades-in-blue). Amazingly, “Terence Washington” is killed in a convenience store robbery whilst Keanu’s character, “Tom Ludlow” is in attendance, as well.

Storyline: “LAPD detective Tom Ludlow is a ruthlessly efficient, unorthodox undercover cop. Captain Jack Wander always covers for Tom, as do even his somewhat jealous colleagues. After technically excessive violence against a vicious Korean gang during the liberation of a kidnapped kid sex slave, Tom becomes the target of IA’s hotshot, captain James Biggs, who feels passed over after Wander’s promotion to chief. Tom’s corrupt, disloyal ex-patrol partner Terrence Washington sides with IA but is killed during a shop robbery in Tom’s presence.” Written by KGF Vissers via

Please feel free to read the Rotten Tomatoes Movie Review below the weblink:

“A lot of reviewers seem to have disliked Street Kings because of its negative view of the LA police, and perhaps the country at large. That is not a problem for me.” Written by Tony Macklin of the Fayetteville Free Weekly {who praised it with a Rotten Tomato (i.e. High Marks)}

I found “Street Kings” to be quite an exciting and action-packed police drama with both suspenseful and surprising highlights throughout. It was interesting watching Keanu Reeves’ character, “Tom Ludlow”, struggle against having his eyes opened concerning all of the corruption surrounding him throughout the entirety of the LA county police departments. “Tom Ludlow” already felt very disturbed by past tragic events in his life that he appeared to feel as though everyone he loved and everything he touched would become cursed. But, I will say that nothing in this film prepares one for the gripping and violent climax which occurs when “Tom Ludlow” does finally experience enlightenment, and decides to act upon such devastating revelations.

Now, I must admit to enjoying viewing Mr. Keanu Reeves’ impressive physique in a police uniform. Keanu does tend to look very attractive in a variety of uniforms; from football and American soldier to that of an heroic policeman. And incidentally, the official anniversary date of the “Street Kings” release has only just passed a few days ago. So, this would be a great time for anyone to re-familiarize themselves with such an intriguing film in commemoration of the diligent work that went into its production. And it is just as good a time as any for those who have not seen it yet, to do so. Therefore, please feel free to watch this intriguing film (again, or for the first time).
